Reading at Home: Building Fluency & Comprehension
In 4th grade, students work hard to improve reading fluency—the ability to read smoothly, accurately, and with expression. Fluency helps readers understand what they’re reading, making it easier to connect ideas and enjoy the story or information.
How can you help at home?
Read with or to your child regularly.
Have them read aloud to you.
Re-read favorite books to build confidence.
Talk about what you’re reading—ask questions and make connections.
Try audiobooks while following along in print.
Just 15–20 minutes a day makes a big difference! Thank you for your support in helping your child grow as a reader.
