Algebra II -- Pre-Calculus -- Calculus
Algebra II course focuses on graphing, interpreting and transforming functions, including linear functions, absolute value functions, quadratic functions, and polynomial functions. You’ll solve quadratic equations, work with complex numbers, and factor polynomials. You’ll also focus on graphing, interpreting and transforming functions, including rational and radical functions. You’ll also be introduced to probability and statistics. Most importantly, you’ll apply this new understanding to everyday situations through new problem-solving techniques.
Pre-Calculus weaves together previous study of algebra, geometry, and mathematical functions into a preparatory course for calculus. The course focuses on mastery of critical skills and exposure to new skills necessary for success in subsequent math courses. Throughout the course, SAT concepts and skills are taught and reinforced. Topics include fundamental concepts of Algebra, functions and graphs, polynomials and rational functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, trigonometric functions, analytic trigonometry, topics in trigonometry, systems of equations and inequalities.
Calculus involves a study of limits, continuity, derivatives and integrals; computations of derivatives—sum, product, and quotient formulas, chain rule, implicit differentiation, applications of derivatives to optimization problems and related rate problems; mean-value theorem; definite integrals and fundamental theorem of calculus; application of definite integrals to computations of areas (length, surface) and volumes.
