Graduation Requirements

FAFSA COMPLETION (beginning with the Class of 2021)

  • Public Act 101-0180

  • Beginning with the 2020-21 school year, in addition to all other graduation requirements, a student must meet one of the following requirements to receive a public school diploma:

  1. File a FAFSA Application; or

  2. File an Application for State Financial Aid (also called Alternative Application for Illinois Financial Aid)

  3. File a waiver/opt out with the school district.

  4. Letter to Parent/Student regarding: FAFSA Completion

Graduation Requirements

Students are required to earn 24 credits to graduate.

The credit break-down is as follows:

  • English: 4 Credits

  • Math: 3 Credits

  • Science: 3 Credits

  • U.S. History: 1 Credit

  • U.S. Government: 1 Credit

  • Physical Education: 3 1/2 Credits

  • Health: 1/2 Credit

  • Drivers Education: 1/4 Credit

  • Elective Courses for remaining credits

Advanced Placement & Weighted Courses

The following courses will be weighted on a 5.0 grading scale

  • "A" = 5.0

  • "B" = 4.0

  • "C" = 3.0

  • "D" = 2.0


  • AP Biology

  • AP Calculus

  • AP Chemistry

  • AP Language/Composition

  • AP Literature/Composition

  • AP U.S. Government

  • AP U.S. History

  • AP World History

Student Classification & Credits

Student classification will be determined by credits and not how long they have been in school.

The following classification will be used:

  • Senior: 18 Credits

  • Junior: 12 Credits

  • Sophomore: 6 Credits

  • Freshman: 0 Credits

Honor Graduates

Each year at graduation, Honor Graduates are recognized. To qualify as a Honor Graduate, a student must have above a 4.0 GPA (Weighted). If there are less than 10% of the graduating class recognized with a GPA higher than 4.0, the Honor Graduates will consist of the top 10% of the graduating class.
