The mission of the MCHS Library is to foster lifelong learning using a 21st century environment and promotion of critical thinking skills. The goal of the Library program is to collaborate with teachers and students so that all patrons are empowered to further their own learning.
The Massac County High School Library/Media Center offers a collection of approximately 5,000 items for check out. In addition, we receive several magazines and one local weekly newspaper, The Metropolis Planet. Please use destinydiscover.com and search our catalog for your topic or interests.
The library is a place for reading, doing research or homework, using supplies, and creating. Students coming to the library during class time must present a pass to the Library/Media Specialist. Classroom teachers can also schedule time to bring classes to the library/media center.
Books circulate for three weeks. All library obligations must be taken care of before a student can receive a report card or go through graduation.
Services available in the Library/Media Center include a copy machine, fax machine, study and conference rooms, and equipment check out. Regional history materials are also available.
The MCHS Library/Media Center has table room for student and faculty use. A ceiling mounted projector that can be used for presentations is available. A Promethean Board is accessible by students and faculty as well. Teachers may use the calendars linked under the Teacher Resources tab (above) to reserve time in the library, the makerspace area, or with equipment like TV/VCR carts.
The Massac County High School Library/Media Center is open from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. If other hours are needed, please contact Mrs. Shelton.
The makerspace area is also available for student use. There are several items and supplies available here to use for projects, such as a 3-D printer, vinyl cutter machine, Cricut, art supplies, sewing/embroidery machines, and pin button makers. If you would like to be badged and trained on equipment for personal use, contact Mrs. Shelton to set up a schedule. Other activities are rotated in and include coloring, Buddha Board, puzzles, and more.
