My name is Lisa Mandia, and I am the School Counselor at Broad Street Elementary School! This is my seventh year in the Mechanicsburg Area School District.
I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Sociology at the University of Pittsburgh and my Master’s degree from Messiah College in School Counseling. I am also a doctoral candidate at Regent University in their Counselor Education and Supervision Program. I am a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and a licensed School Counselor for grades K-12.
As a school counselor, my job is to help your students develop in all areas, including academic, career and social/emotional. I teach lessons on a variety of topics from listening skills to growth mindset. I also look forward to communicating and collaborating with you to work together toward our common goal of student success.
Here are two options for you to provide information and feedback for my school counseling program:
Student Information Survey: Tell me about your student and in what areas your family might need support.
School Counseling Program Feedback Form: Tell me your preferences for my school counseling program.
I appreciate your honest feedback as it helps me to continue to improve my program and grow as a school counselor. Thank you in advance for your participation!
Bring your student to Broad Street for Classroom Visitation! They can check-out their classroom and meet their teacher before school starts. They might even get to see some of their future classmates.
Mechanicsburg Area School District is privileged to offer a weekend food distribution program for families in need. The purpose of the program is to provide non-perishable, vitamin-fortified, and easy to prepare foods to children at times when school resources are not available, such as weekends and school vacations. Bags will include two breakfasts, two meals, and two snacks. The program is free of charge.
If your family is interested in receiving weekend food bags, please click the link and complete this form.
Bring your student to Broad Street for Back to School Night! They can show you their classroom and some of the fun learning activities that they have been up to the first few weeks of school.
It's that time of year! Parent-Teacher Conferences, a great opportunity to check-in with your student's teacher and discuss how they have been progressing so far this school year. Send me an email or give me a call if you would like for me to attend your conference or if you want to set up an individual conference with me!

Bring what you can to help Operation Wildcat provide meals for our MASD community families.
In years past, we have taken the time to celebrate different traditions and diverse cultures through our Celebrations Around the World. This year each grade level is going to participate in different ways, from morning meetings with read alouds to fun crafts and activities, each class will be taking their own approach to supporting students in developing their knowledge and understanding about different traditions. Some of the holidays we have showcased in the past included Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Diwali, Christmas in Mexico, and Chinese New Year. Check out EPIC for more resources on different celebrations!
Martin Luther King Jr. Day is the only federal holiday designated by Congress as a National Day of Service. On this day off from school, try to find ways to give back to your community or talk with your students about volunteer work you have done.
Encourage your students to serve others and donate non-perishable foods to our "Souper Bowl" Food Drive. Donations will go to our MASD Elementary Food Pantry. They are asking for all non-perishable food items, including soup and single-serve meals (ravioli, macaroni, oatmeal, ramen, etc).
Donations will be collected at school during the week before the Super Bowl - February 3rd through February 7th. Students will be able to use their donations to vote for the team that they think will win the Super Bowl.
Parent-Teacher Conferences, a great opportunity to check-in with your student's teacher and discuss how they have been progressing so far this school year. Family Arts Night at the Mechanicsburg Area High School is a fun time for the whole family. Come look at some amazing art and create some art yourself at the Elementary Student Assistance Program team's Wellness tables.
Come see your child's classroom and check-out all of the amazing things they have been up to this school year! I will have a table set-up outside the library with information on my school counseling program and other resources.
We wish our third graders endurance as they tackle the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) exams for ELA and Math! Remember to use your strategies!
Bring the family to Broad Street to have some May Fair fun!
Field Day is one of the most memorable elementary school memories for many of us. Our P.E. department does a great job of setting up engaging games and organizing a day full of fun. Remind your students to wear sunscreen and bring a positive attitude!
