Day to Day Schedule

Week 1: Introductions and Expectations (8/28 - 9/1)

Monday, 8/28 Day 1:  

• Introductions, Ice Breaker 

• Log into Google Classroom and find Mr. Petrillo's website

Tuesday, 8/29:  

• Begin 3 Truths and a Lie....template found in Google Classroom. Open the slides presentation found at this LINK  (link will be in Google Classroom and completion will be a grade).  Students create their slide due tomorrow.

Wednesday, 8/30:

• First science investigation -PLANT YOUR GRASS!.  Grass Lab can be found on this PAGE.  

• 3 Truths and a Lie.  

Thursday, 8/31:  

• Discuss how to properly conduct an experiment.  Students will be given different experiments, identify the variables, determine if a control is possible, and design an experiment...presentation link.

• Break students into groups and have them identify parts of an experiment. Presentation

• 3 Truths and a Lie.  Open the slides presentation found at this LINK  (link will be in Google Classroom and completion will be a grade).  Students create their slide. FINISH DURING CLASS

• Take care of your grass!

Week 2 (9/4 - 9/8): 

Monday, 9/4 -  HOLIDAY:  

Tuesday,  9/5:

• Water grass!

• Finish notes about Parts of an experiment.

• Students break into groups and create a slide showing parts of an experiment based upon which experiment they are assigned found in this document.

Wednesday,  9/6:

• Data table to be shared with group on this PAGE. Students record first results of growing. (LATER)

• 10 minutes to submit Identifying Parts of Experiment into Google Classroom.

• Review answers to parts of an experiment slide they turned in.  Use this video as a launch, if time.

• Begin discussion of Characteristics of Life that are found in this document.

Thursday, 9/7:  

• Replant grass :(

• Remind of quiz tomorrow.

• Continue Characteristics of Life notes.

Friday, 9/8 :

• Quiz on identifying parts of an experiment about spotted lanternflies...posted in Google Classroom.

• Water grass

• Continue notes on Characteristics of Life

Week 3 (9/11 - 9/15): 

Monday, 9/11

• Finish notes on Characteristics

• Introduce Characteristics of Life questions assignment that was posted in Google Classroom.

Tuesday,  9/12

• Continue work on Characteristics of Life questions assignment that was posted in Google Classroom. Due tomorrow

Wednesday,  9/13

• Students turn in Characteristics assignment today.

• Introduce Exemplar (Perfect Example) of a Lab Report

• Students can make a copy of Lab Report Template and begin to create lab report.

Thursday, 9/14

• Complete Grass Growing Lab report up to the Results Section.   You can view the template and the sample lab report on this page, but remember that you will not use those links to begin your report...the lab report will be sent to you and eventually submitted through your teacher's Google Classroom.  Teacher will check your progress in class Friday. 

Friday, 9/15

• Teacher will check that grass growing lab report is completed through the Procedure and then grade.

• Students measure their grass and put measurement under DAY 8.

• Teacher will go over how to create a graph from information in a google sheet.  Samples to look at are:  SAMPLE 1, SAMPLE 2, SAMPLE 3. Students will see this document that will be their homework tomorrow.

Week 4 (9/18 - 9/22)

Monday, 9/18

• Measure and water grass

• Samples to look at are:  SAMPLE 1, SAMPLE 2, SAMPLE 3. Students will see this document that will be their homework tomorrow.  Teacher will look at their computer for completed graph.

• Open note Quiz tomorrow

Tuesday,  9/19

• Check homework

• Open note Clam graphing quiz found in Google Classroom

Wednesday,  9/20

• Introduce students to Life Science Vocabulary and List #1

• For homework, students create Quizlet flashcards for vocabulary words. Quizlet and quiz due Friday

• Measure and water grass

• Revisit lab report...answer questions that do not require having results.

Thursday, 9/21

• Vocabulary Pretest

• Continue lab report questions that do not require results

Friday, 9/22 (PASS)

• Check quizlet

• Vocabulary Quiz #1 (RESTRICTED LINK TO PRINTED COPY)

• Final measurements and begin results for lab report.

• Results for all classes are recorded for students to create graph

Week 5 (9/25 - 9/29)

Monday, 9/25

• Create graphs from final data and paste into reports

• FINAL COPY DUE TOMORROW given time to work in class

Tuesday,  9/26

• 20 minutes to work on Lab Report

• Begin  Crosscutting Concepts Discussion. ...Student Poster. CCC Presentation Notes (Presentation of English Language Learners...Patterns Questions for ELL)

Wednesday,  9/27

• Continue Crosscutting Concepts Discussion up through Cause and Effect

• Students get 10 minutes of class to complete Google Question about Patterns

Thursday, 9/28

• Give 10 minutes to finish Google Question about Patterns

• Homework/Classwork - Google Question on Cause and Effect

• Continue with Crosscutting Concepts through Systems and System models

• Give a few minutes to start Cause and Effect Question

Friday, 9/29

• Continue with Crosscutting Concepts through at least Structure and Function so students can answer Google Question in Classroom

Week 6 (10/2 - 10/6)

Monday, 10/2

• give 10 minutes to finish Scale and Proportion CCC question

• Finish Stability and Change CCC

• Begin CCC assignment to review the rest of the CCC's

Tuesday,  10/3

• FInish CCC assignment.

• Review Identifying Crosscutting Concepts Google Question.

Wednesday,  10/4

• Finish Identifying Crosscutting Concepts Google Question. (Spanish Worksheet...Identifying CCC's Presentation Spanish)

• Complete CCC survey

Thursday, 10/5

• Begin discussion of Cells with this PowerPoint and this video.  Activator discussing size of cells.

Friday, 10/6
