Native American Heritage Month
Throughout November, our schools proudly celebrated Native American Heritage Month, a time to honor the history, culture, and contributions of Native people in our community and across the nation.
Daily Themes & Activities
Each day in November featured a unity, color, or theme day designed to highlight important teachings and causes. Students were also encouraged to wear Rock Your Mocs or traditional Native attire throughout the month.
Rock Your Mocs Parade
On Friday morning, our Pow Wow royalty led a Rock Your Mocs parade. Students who wished to participate gathered at 8:15 AM near the display case and danced grand-entry style through the school wings.
Guest Speaker: Tiana Spotted Thunder
Tiana Spotted Thunder will speak at both White Swan High School and on the Harrah campus on November 30. She is a Lakota recording artist from Oglala, South Dakota, on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. She is a vocalist of many genres, but specializes in singing traditional Lakota and indigenous music. She travels throughout North America to powwows as a backup singer for drum groups as well as performs solo for various audiences.
Hallway Cultural Displays
Special thanks to Ms. Craig, who filled our hallways with Native American alumni spotlights, teacher features, books, posters, and artwork representing Native cultures and contributions.
We are grateful to all students, staff, families, and community members who helped make Native American Heritage Month meaningful and educational. Thank you for supporting our commitment to honor, respect, and celebrate the rich Native cultures that shape our community.
