Good to Know Tech Info

WIFI @ MAS

NOVANET is the main WiFi for staff at MAS.
- - This password should be PRELOADED for you on any school-issued device.
NOVASTAFF is only for personal staff devices. Please email Eric Wertzler or Charles Harris for the password.
- - NOTE: MAS is not responsible for lost, stolen, or broken personal devices.

CONNECTING TO COPIERS & PRINTERS

When using the copiers, use your personal copy code. If you forgot yours, contact Eric Wertzler. Your copies are tracked and do have a limit, so be aware of it!
All printers are located in offices throughout MAS. Make sure you have permission to print to them before sending jobs. These are for small, single copies, not large classroom jobs.
ALL copiers and printers are connected to NOVANET. Nothing will print from NOVASTAFF
We will not set up personal computers to print at MAS due to security/malware risks.
- NOTE: If using a personal MacBook, printers can be added by IP address as this negates that risk. See Charles Harris charris@mascience.org for help getting this set up.
If you need to add an additional copier/printer to your device, follow the steps below:
- - Ensure you are on the NOVANET wireless network (this won't work on NOVASTAFF).
  - Open a "Run" prompt by pressing the "Windows" key + "R" at the same time
  - In the prompt, type (or copy/paste): \\GIGANTOSAURUS
  - Click OK. A window will appear displaying a list of printers (see below)
  - Double click on the copier you wish to install. They are listed by room number/location.
  - The driver will automatically download and the copier will be added to your list of available printers.
  - You are all set to print!

Personal printers will not be managed by MAS and you are responsible for your own ink, maintenance, etc.

PROJECTING/EXTENDING YOUR DISPLAY

When connected to a board, TV, or projector, if you are looking to extend your display (make another workspace) instead of mirroring it (showing what is on your screen), press "Windows Button + P" to bring up the display menu. See it in action here (coming soon)
- - - This is great for taking attendance, managing grades, or other tasks while the students still have their directions and work on the screen

ALWAYS HAVE A BACKUP PLAN

*TEST YOUR TECH BEFORE CLASS*
As you know, technology doesn't always play nice--the WIFI cuts out, Chromebooks aren't charged, your projector bulb burns out, etc. Always make sure to have a backup plan available at any time (printed copies, handouts, worksheets, discussion activities, in-class learning games, etc.) for when the inevitable happens!
