Chromebook Cart Checklist:
Before rolling out tech in your rooms, can you answer the following questions?
ALWAYS PLACE THE CHROMEBOOK IN THE NUMBER SLOT IT IS ASSIGNED TO. This helps us keep track of all our devices.
ALWAYS USE TWO HANDS AND GRASP CHROMEBOOK UNDER THE KEYBOARD…NEVER BY THE SCREEN. The screen is delicate!
DO NOT EAT OR DRINK AROUND A CHROMEBOOK. Spills and crumbs can cause damage.
LOG OFF LIKE A PRO!
SIGN OUT AND SHUT DOWN THE CHROMEBOOK AFTER YOU ARE DONE WITH IT. This saves battery and keeps your work secure.
IF THE CHROMEBOOK NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED, GIVE IT TO YOUR TEACHER. They will know how to get it fixed.
Classroom Management & Chromebook Devices:
Use proximity to manage student behavior when using devices. If you're walking around the room during instructional time, this will discourage students from going onto sites they are not supposed visit during class time.
Will computers be distributed at the beginning of class or once directions are given?
What are the expectations when Chromebooks are out? Are they closed during instructions? Can students log-in right away? Has this been explicitly stated to them?
How will computers be collected at the end of a lesson?
Plan ahead and make copies of common things that students can do if they are banned from your class for a time period. This is NOT something you need to alert the tech department of unless it is an egregious offense. By simply not giving them a device they will serve a natural consequence.
It is impossible for the tech department to block every feature that allows chatting, as oftentimes we WANT them to practice digital communication, so what other avenues will you pursue to prevent or discourage it?
What are your procedures for having students report damaged or broken devices? Where do they go in your room? What do you do with them/who do you report them to? Do students know to report them broken or do they just get placed back in the cart?
Devices should not leave the room…ever!
