MAS11 Newsletter 3.2

2023-24

The links to the left will take you to  our dedicated site for Yr11 students & parents where you will find key pieces of information to help keep you up to date, tools to help with revision and support to get you through the final year of GCSEs.

The expectation of GCSE examinations, the anxiety over results and the pressure of making important choices about future aspirations are all conducive to potentially stressful times, but the end of the year is also a time when students can feel immense pride and satisfaction in their well-deserved academic achievements. As students strive for academic excellence, students will show their character through hard work and dedication which all students will need for them to reach their full potential in their GCSE examinations.

MAS11 Key Purpose:  To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often.

We hope this newsletter finds you well. We would like to inform you that the mock exam results have been distributed during last week's assembly. These results will be available for both students and parents to access through the Bromcom student portal later this week. Parents can also access them via the My Child at School (MCAS) platform.

We encourage you to work closely with your child to analyse their mock exam results and identify areas for improvement. Staff have already done this in the form of class feedback and question level analysis-QLA. As mentioned in our previous newsletter, the MAS11 website provides helpful resources and guidance to support your child in their studies. We highly recommend referring to these resources to assist your child in achieving better results.

We are pleased to inform you that our academy invigilators provided positive feedback on the overall conduct of the mock exams. However, they have requested that students come prepared for future exams with the necessary equipment, such as calculators. It is essential for students to have the correct tools to ensure a smooth and efficient examination experience.

Furthermore, we would like to remind you that our students have been taught various study skills techniques to enhance their learning. Encouraging your child to utilise these techniques, such as effective time management and revision strategies, will greatly benefit their academic progress.

I would like to re emphasise the importance of attendance for both regular school days and public exams. As stated in my previous letter (click here), please note that if your child misses an exam without a valid reason for absence, there will be a charge incurred.

We would also like to inform you of the contingency dates set by JCQ for the exams. These dates are Thursday, June 6th, 2024, and Thursday, June 13th, 2024. Additionally, the standard contingency day remains scheduled at the end of the timetable on Wednesday, June 26th, 2024.

Last week, a letter was sent regarding the leavers prom, which will take place on June 19th. Further details about the event can be found later in this newsletter.

Please be aware that Mytutor will resume at the beginning of Module 4. Students selected for this program will be notified later this week, along with their parents.

We are pleased to announce that 20-20 Learning will be visiting Year 11 to deliver workshops in English, math, and science. Students and parents have already been informed if their has been selected for this event, which will take place on February 8th.

Furthermore, Elevate Education will be visiting Year 11 again this year to work with all students on time management and exam preparation techniques. We strongly encourage your child to have a revision timetable and engage in regular revision.

Period 6 revision classes will continue to take place, and we urge students to attend these sessions. Additionally, English will be conducting online evening revision classes every Tuesday and Thursday, in addition to their Monday Period 6 sessions. Details of these online sessions are posted in your child's Google Classroom for English.

As always, we appreciate your continued support and involvement in your child's education. Should you have any further questions or require additional assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

Thank you for your support, and we wish you and your child all the best in their academic journey.

Yours sincerely,

Mr Stamato

Assistant Principal & Deputy Head of Earhart College
