Dr. Tess Ann Simpson created the IDEA Lab in January 2025 at Maryville College in Maryville, Tennessee. The first cohort of research assistants included Maryville College students, Sarah Jacobs, Olivia Carter, and Annie Melhorn.

Who we are
The IDEA Lab recruits for new student research assistants each Spring semester for the following academic year or as needed on a rolling basis. Research assistants bring to the lab a variety of experiences, knowledge, and interests. Throughout their time in the lab, they gain more experience with research methods and collaborative work.
