The Community of Inquiry (CoI) model addresses three areas for the online education experience:
Social Presence: The human interaction between students and also between student and the instructor;
Cognitive presence: The ability to engage with the course material utilizing critical thinking and meaning making;
Teaching presence: the teaching and design of the course by the instructor.
Your instructors design and teach your online courses through the lens of this model. Online courses require deliberate action on the student's part, sitting back and waiting for information to passively flow to you is not part of the online experience.
Motivation - how are you motivated?
Self advocate - instructor will not be able to see in person signs to signal to ask if you are ok so reach out if need help.
Effort you put in = what you get out of the experience
Log into course the 1st day.
Time management skills: Asynchronous classes allow a week to accomplish tasks but no scheduled common class time. Block time off on your weekly schedule to work on your courses.
Difference between face to face (F2F) learning and online learning is being an active learner.
Difference between synchronous an asynchronous is time management.
