The Reprieve
Written by Marcella Gallerani
If I had known, to earn your faith, that all I had to do
Was fly to the moon and sit with you on undefiled dust
And listen as your life was spelled like rains of stars slew
With twofold rarity, I’d do it all to earn your trust
I am like the world at large; because it loves me so,
I have known small suffering, from which, what did I learn?
Although you’re cold, you’re dignified and does your poise bestow
Within myself a sense of shame vis-à-vis my scorn
You’re unlike the world at large, and though I love it so,
Something in the way you live inspires me to grieve
Have us an exchange of faith, let’s will that chaos know
A way to let ourselves align: the war of worlds’ reprieve
From the moon, the world is one, lain out in our full view
Thank you for the talk, my friend; now let us pay what’s due
