MUSD first partnered with Dr. Lori Watson in 2020 to develop a series of trainings for staff, parents and students. Dr. Watson launched her first training with all MUSD employees on September 16, 2020. This introductory training laid the foundation for our collective anti-racist work as a district.
Dr. Watson worked with cohorts of MUSD staff for three intensive training throughout the 2020-21 school year and continuing into the 2021-22 school year. Their work together took a deeper dive into bias and ways to interrupt systematic racism. Throughout both 2020-21 and 2021-22, MUSD also scheduled a multi-part parent series where parents/families were welcome to participate in any sessions.
In 2023, Dr. Watson began working with MUSD staff advisors and students in the Student Antiracist Led Movement. This is a three year program focused on engaging students in conversations about race and empowering them as leaders in an anti-racist youth movement.
MUSD is currently in the process of identifying a partner focused on providing professional learning and community engagement in SOGIE. Stay tuned for more details.
