This is my dreamcatcher inspired by the seven laws shown throughout the Ojibwe culture. I have drawn several symbols that I believe represent each and every one of the laws. The feathers down the bottom of the dreamcatcher represent the eagle along with its meaning. Every symbol comes with a history and a short story explaining how it originated. For example, the turtle represents truth, the wolf shows humility, and the brown bear showcases the lesson of courage. All of these meanings have a remarkable part in Ojibwe culture.
The Ojibwe or also known as the Native Americans consist of a very interesting culture. They were the largest and possibly most powerful tribe of all the tribes located throughout North America. In this piece of writing, I’m going to be talking about the Ojibwe traditions, culture, language along with the country that they live in, and finally the seven laws and their history. The reason for these topics is that they showcase great importance throughout their culture.
A prime example of the Ojibwe traditions is how they were very resourceful as they would use what they found or what was available in the environment such as natural resources for things like building. The Ojibwe feel very strongly about religious practices, traditional crafts, and many more.
The Ojibwe is located in North America and along the Atlantic coast. The Ojibwe live in both the united states and around Canada, as well as the land around the great lakes. The language spoken by the Ojibwe is called Anishinaabemowin but can also be spoken by other indigenous people in North America.
The seven laws are quite a big part of the Ojibwe beliefs, they include Honesty, love, courage, truth, wisdom, humility, and respect. Each individual is represented by an animal, they all have a very special story to them. For example, the buffalo is known as the symbol of respect means you give without expecting anything in return.
My art shows each of the seven symbols of the seven laws, I have come up with designs to represent them and their meanings. The art I have created is a dream catcher including many circles in the middle which are then filled with significant designs.
