ESEA has to be reauthorized periodically. In 2001, ESEA was reauthorized through NCLB (No Child Left Behind Act). NCLB added many requirements such as annual testing, district and school report cards, teacher qualifications, and many funding changes. Under President Obama, Congress signed the new ESEA reauthorization in 2015 called Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). The funds provided through ESSA are to utilized to support students through programs and interventions needed for student achievement and success. Funds are used for the following:
1. improve student achievement for all participating students
2. improve staff development and
3. improve parental and community involvement.
