Writing your reflection
Activity
Complete as many of the following writing strategies as you like.
Imaginative, discursive or persuasive writing
1. Respond to the composer’s poem and put forward an alternative perspective to the one expressed in the text. You might like to consider other ways of looking at the issue.
To assist you, brainstorm the following:
three central concerns related to the issue
the essence of your argument/ideas
examples from real life or from fiction/nonfiction that illustrate the essence of your argument/ideas
two or three quotes (if relevant).
Reflection writing
1. Reflect on how your imaginative, discursive or persuasive writing could be received by other groups in society. For example, Indigenous people, people of different age groups and different cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
Explain their perspective and justify your response with reference to your personal lived experience.
2. Explore your imaginative, discursive or persuasive piece of writing by writing a short 200-word reflection on how your ideas have been influenced by the composer’s poem.
To assist you, brainstorm the following:
similarities in ideas, techniques and strategies between your writing and the composer’s
differences in ideas, techniques and strategies between your writing and the composer’s.
3. In what ways do you think your writing would engage a potential audience? Explain your thoughts with reference to the ideas, techniques and strategies you used.
