MRS. GIAMELLA WILL BE TEACHING THE FOLLOWING COURSES THROUGHOUT THE FOUR YEAR ACADEMY PROGRAM. COURSES NOTED WITH AN ASTERISK* WILL BE RUNNING FOR THE 2023/2024 MATAWAN REGIONAL HIGH SCHOOL CALENDAR YEAR. COURSES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE:
Performing Arts I* - an introductory acting course that covers ensemble building, improvisation, pantomime, the basics of auditioning, theatrical performances (both musicals and straight plays).
Performing Arts II - an intermediate acting course that covers monologues and complex scenes, the audition process, ensemble building, theatre history (Commedia Dell 'Arte specifically), improvisation, and theatrical performances (both musicals and straight plays).
Play Production* - a skills-based course that focuses on all of the behind-the-scenes elements such as stage management, directing, scenic design, lighting design, sound design, costume design, special effects makeup, flat/scenic painting, among many other aspects. These students also help to design and create the props and major set pieces for the Academy Night at the end of the year.
Script Analysis & Performance - an advanced performance course that covers popular acting methods (Stanislavski, Meisner, Strasberg, etc.), contemporary theatrical performances (both musicals and straight plays), prepares the student for professional auditions and interviews, rigorous research projects, an extensive theatre history, and creating a diverse performance repertoire and acting reel.
