Junior SWAT

Junior Student Wellbeing Action Team (SWAT)

Maroondah City Council has demonstrated a commitment to raising the wellbeing of its youth and empowering young people to create positive change in their communities. SWAT helps young people to uncover their personal strengths, develop leadership skills and use their new skills to lead a wellbeing project in their own school, ultimately creating positive change.

Our Grade 5 Junior SWAT leaders for 2022 are Xanthe and Reina. Their wellbeing research question is "What issues are children in Maroondah facing today?’ They have been collecting data, via surveys, on conflict issues and presenting short lessons for students on the different styles of conflict resolution. Xanthe and Reina chose to focus on the Relationships pillar from the PERMAH model for their wellbeing project and investigation.

Our Junior SWAT leaders for 2021 were Nick and Brandan. Nick and Brandan attended a SWAT Summit and 2 day retreat to build upon their understanding of Positive Psychology. With their 'Social Scientist' hats on back at school, they successfully implemented Together Tuesdays in an effort to build Positive Relationships and raise activity levels for our students during Tuesday lunchtimes. Nick and Brandan planned and facilitated games and physical activities for all year levels to enjoy together at school.
