Unit 03: Building and Design

Objectives:

In this unit you will work with the Tetrix Building System and build a training Robot. This robot will be used for electronics practice and programming exercises in Java. After the FTC Game is released, we will modify the robot design to meet the engineering requirements for the game.

Concepts and Vocabulary:

  • Robot construction requirements: Simple, Symmetrical, Strong, Standardized

  • Robot Subsystems: Drivetrain/Chassis, Actuator, Intakes, Graspers, Control, and Power

  • Building Materials: C Channels, Flats, Brackets, Gears

  • Bolts and Nuts: Sizes and Tools

  • Wheel Types: Standard and Omni

  • Motor Types: REV 40:1, Tetrix 60:1, Core Hex Motor

  • Servos: Standard and Continuous Rotation

Skills and Product:

  • Students will build from plans Chassis and DriveTrain

  • Students will build from Plans Arms, Graspers, and Intakes

  • Students will document building process through pictures at each step
