Books I Love!

This site will feature the books I am reading and my recommendations. Stay tuned!!!

The Hate U Give By Angie Thomas centers around a high school aged girl named Starr who is the primary and only witness to a cop killing one of her best friends, Khalil. She struggles with how to handle telling her friends at Williamson, because they don’t know what her life is like at Garden Heights. Will her Williamson friends still treat her the same when they know her dad was in a gang and spent time in prison? I love getting to know Starr and her family through this heart wrenching story. Starr is a character I think everyone can relate to. The author reveals Starr’s bravery as she has to go on national TV to tell her side of the story, yet her vulnerable side of fearing the local gang that may be out to get her and her family. It was a great story that I highly recommend!!

free verse by Sarah Dooley is a touching story about a girl that looses everything. With both her parents gone, her brother dies and she is left to be placed in a foster home. Although her foster mom tries extra hard to make her feel welcome, Sasha struggles with her new life. Learning about relatives that live next door begins to make her world make sense again. But how will she handle knowing her cousins disappearance is all her fault? You will be drawn to the characters in this story!

My favorite part is when Sasha realizes what is really important to her and decides to fight for it.

Count All Her Bones by April Henry is the exciting second book of Girl Stolen. Cheyenne is a beautiful sixteen year old girl who is blind from a horrible car accident. In the first book, she is inadvertently kidnapped when a boy steals her stepmothers car and she was asleep in the back seat. Now that Cheyenne is safe at home, she thinks she can get on with her life, but not until she has to testify against the man that held her hostage.

My favorite part is when Cheyenne becomes bold and seeks to find what she want.

Imposters by Scott Westerfield

This is a story spin off from Scott Westerfield's Ugly Series. Twin sisters are caught in a world where their father rules over the land with an iron fist. He controls everyone's thoughts and actions by spy dust that covers the entire city. One daughter is hidden from everyone and trained to be a killer. The other daughter is educated in all the finer things in life. The two girls rely on each other for everything until they are separated in order for their father to control the city of Victoria. My favorite part is the how one sister is so different from the other, yet they need each other to be complete. This book is full of action and suspense. It will keep you on the edge of your seat to the very end.

Heartless by Marissa Meyer

This book was amazing! If you like fairy tales, you will love Heartless by Marissa Meyer. You meet young Catherine who just loves to bake things and desires nothing more than to open her own bake shop. Her mother, on the other hand, has royalty in her eyes for her daughter. Cath has won the affection of the King of Hearts, but she is drawn to an intriguing young court jesture. Will she marry the King of Hearts or will she follow her heart and marry Jest. My favorite part is the love triangle and how Cath is swept off her feet, but is it love or magic? You won't want to miss this story and find out just who becomes the Queen of Hearts and how it all unfolds.

Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell

Eleanor is a big girl with curly red hair and she's just moved to a new town, which means going to a brand new school. At her old school, no one seemed to notice her bright red hair. The new school is different. No one seems to want a new friend like her.

Park starts out as just a boy on the bus that is the only one that will let Eleanor sit down next to him. He doesn't want to talk to her or even look at her for fear that his "friends" will make fun of him.

Then Eleanor and Park find out that they actually have something in common. Read this excitingly fun book about friendship and love.
