This component focuses on raising awareness on mental health, and training the MARINERS’ Community on providing basic psychosocial support to students, faculty members or staff that are affected by or experiencing a crisis. Through a comprehensive training program, in partnership with EMPATH Philippines, a Psychosocial Support Team [PST], shall be formed composed of fifty [50] selected faculty members and staff, and student leaders as well.
Remote or virtual training and seminars on various mental health topics will be conducted, and will be made open and free to everyone who is interested. Health and wellness information and materials will also be available through this website and the School’s social media accounts.

A four-day virtual Psychosocial Support Training or PST commences today, as part of the counselling skills enhancement program by the Guidance Office, aimed at preparing Fifty Mariners’ Legazpi personnel and students as volunteer counselors.
This is in line with the Kugus –Tugang Program under the direction of the Office of the President, through one of its component projects called “Aramun Ta”. This component is primarily intended to provide the necessary training to volunteer would-be counselors, who will assist in providing psycho-social support to students and employees suffering from mental health issues.
The training which is slated for four consecutive Fridays, from 3:00PM to 5:00PM is composed of four specialized modules namely; Mental Health 101, Common Mental Health Problems, Psychosocial Skills Training, and Synthesis and Integration. The said training is being undertaken by the school, in partnership with EMPATH Philippines which is a corporation engaged in the business of providing mental healthcare and other mental wellness related activities.
The Psychosocial Training intended for the fifty selected employees and students, who will serve as volunteer counselors under the Kumusta Ka component of Mariners’ Legazpi’s Kugus-Tugang program, will have their second virtual session today – June 18, 2021 with EMPATH Trainers. The short course which will run for four consecutive Fridays, will have for today, Common Mental Health Problems as the main subject matter.
The first session conducted last June 11, 2021, tackled Mental Health 101 which was enthusiastically participated by the chosen attendees, along with some School Officials. The continuing training is part of the main thrusts of the School Administration, to provide trained students and personnel who can assist in addressing mental health challenges that are besetting not only members of the Mariners’ family, but also countless individuals in the whole community in general because of the pandemic.
After the brief course, there will be a good number of trained mental health coaches available for the Mariners’ community, especially to the students who are the most likely affected by the difficulties of the present situation.
