One interesting about capybara's is the follow a thing called aloe parenting. This means all baby capybaras are mothered by every female in the group. This increases the survival of the babies living until maturity. This also what makes them good mothers for other animal's babies.
While most people believe that capybaras are the chilliest rodent on the plant, and for the most part they are. That doesn't mean they won't protect themselves or their babies. When capybaras feel threated, and they are close to a body of water (which is most times) they will jump into the water while one adult male stay to defend. In a group of capybaras there is one alpha male, he gets first pick of the females. This causes some tension between alpha male and all the other males. Still to this day the capybaras greatest predator are humans.
Capybaras are semi-aquatic animals; they love being in the water. Whenever you are looking for capybaras, you should look at environments that have large body of water with much green vegetation, because they love to eat. capybaras can hold their breaths for up to 5 minutes and have webbed feet to help them swim.
Capybaras reach full sexual maturity at 12 months for females and 18 months for males. The greatest defense mechanism capybaras have is just to keep having babies till they die.
