My name is Sam Knox and I am now into my sixth year of teaching. I love teaching at Marfell School and being with a classroom of students is definitely my happy place. I'm passionate about cricket, golf, music and education. I am originally from Palmerston North but moved up to New Plymouth six years ago. I have a wonderful wife Hannah who supports myself and the students in my class a lot.
I am passionate about providing a space for my students that they feel they can take risks and be safe in. I believe it is through risk taking, persistence and really well catered routines that students grow and learn. The agreement I make with every student is that I will work hard for them and I expect them to work hard for me.
I like to promote a culture that involves a lot of self reflection and persistence. Students are challenged to push themselves and to pinpoint areas that they themselves want to grow in. An emphasis on acknowledging mistakes as individuals and as a class means that Room 2 students know that mistakes are learning opportunities.
Lastly I want everyone to grow in ALL areas of their life. This might mean interpersonal skills, owning mistakes, self control, organizational skills etc. This is something I am passionate about and I know it leads to great growth academically.
My classroom door is always open for anyone to pop in and have a chat.
