World Book

Day

Thank you for supporting us with World Book Day!

Celebration activities are a special part of World Book Day and make it an effective part of our Reading for Pleasure campaign which is embedded within our curriculum. The activities yesterday supported the elements of Reading for Pleasure: being read to, having books at home and school, having a choice in what to read, finding time to read, having trusted help to find a book and most importantly making reading fun!

A massive thank you to all families for your support in celebrating World Book Day and continually making reading an importance at home and school.

We were delighted to welcome the local librarians from Marden library, who discussed the importance of reading, their favourite books and how to choose the best books to read. The children were thoroughly engaged and were enthusiastic to share their favourite reads!

Throughout the day there was plenty of opportunity to read from sharing books with younger children to listening to a class teacher. It was lovely to see children perform their story telling skills in front of each other.

As part of the celebration, children worked together to create acrostic poem 'We Love Reading.' They loved working together playing with vocabulary creating some memorable lines. For example:

'Laughing out loud, we get lost in a book!'

'Engaging with a book will help you to relax and feel calm'

'Vast vocabulary hidden in a mysterious world of pages of imagination to explore'

'Never give up on a book- it may be a banger;

Get ready, for suspense: it is a cliffhanger!'
