Principal's Message

It has been wonderful seeing all of the children this week telling me the stories of their holidays.

At the end of last term, we had a parent survey and I am overwhelmed by your positivity. I will send a letter next week with greater detail but for me, these were some highlights:

Of course, there are always areas to improve and those with specific points, we will get in touch in due course. But for now, I want to thank you all for your kind words, your show of appreciation and your support.

Office Messages

Safeguarding @ Marden

If you are concerned about yourself, a child or a member of our community, and would like to speak with a Designated Safeguarding Lead please email our new email address: safeguarding@mardenprimaryacademy.org.uk

Our Safeguarding Team is Mr Dosad, Mrs Bryant, Mrs Rawling & Miss Holness

A member of the team will actively support you to address any issues. They are fully trained and experienced in dealing with a wide range of issues and challenges faced by young people.

PE Kits

Please can we remind all parents that children should have a full PE kit in school at all times.

This should consist of the following items:

1. a Marden PE Top in their house colour

2. shorts, leggings or jogging bottoms

3. trainers.

We would recommend bringing PE kits in on a Monday and then taking them home again on a Friday. We will no longer be making calls to parents for forgotten PE kits.

Please may we remind all parents that dogs are not permitted onto the school site or grounds. This includes dogs being carried in arms or inside jackets.

Please refer to our Dogs on School Grounds Policy for further information.

We have a number of children who find the presence of dogs frightening and the academy's priority is the safeguarding of its children and staff.

We thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter.

Reading Reward Winners

Congratulations to our reading reward winners, Eloise in Year 4 and William H in Year 2. Both Eloise and William have won a £10 Amazon voucher to spend on a book of their choice - we can't wait to see your book selections!

Each term, the children have the chance to win a £10 Amazon voucher as a reward for reading regularly at home and at school. For every ten reading entries shown on their reading bookmarks, the children receive a raffle ticket that then enters a prize draw. The more reading entries, the more raffle tickets each child receives and the greater the chance of winning the £10 voucher! So please do encourage your child to read at home and get winning those raffle tickets!

EXCITING NEWS!

From today, we have launched a brand new class competition, pitting the KS2 classes against each other to see who can win the weekly Times Tables Rockstars battles and earn the most points (as an average).

Not only are children playing for personal and class glory (earning the right to proudly display 'Ringo the Rockstar Teddy' within their classroom), but a very special trophy is on offer for the house who, over the term, earns the most points!

Children will be given plenty of opportunities to play and practise their times table skills in school, but the most successful will be those who go beyond this, so therefore please give your children every opportunity to engage in these competitions at home- the impact on their learning will be rocktastic!

MORE EXCITING NEWS!

Just like our KS2 friends, from today, we have launched a brand new class competition, where the KS1 classes are against each other to see who can earn the most points on Numbots.

Children are playing for personal and class success, with the weekly winning class earning the right to proudly display 'Rusty the Robot' within their classroom.

Children will be given plenty of opportunities to play and practise their skills in school, but please encourage them to engage with this exciting event at home- the impact on their learning will be out of this world!

Year 6 Leavers' Hoodies

We are delighted to offer Year 6 parents the opportunity to purchase a Class of 2023 Leavers’ Hoody for their child. We are working with Fizz Hoodies, the UK's premier supplier of Leavers’ Hoodies, and are eagerly anticipating what is sure to be a wonderful keepsake to celebrate their time at the school.

The Hoodies will have a large ‘23’ print on the back, containing the names of all students in Year 6, and will also feature an embroidered logo on the front.

All of the students have the opportunity to purchase a Hoody. It is essential that orders are placed in plenty of time so the cut-off date will be 9th April 2023.

To place an order, please visit the following website:

Year 6 SATS Booster Sessions

A reminder that Year 6 SATS Booster sessions are taking place every Thursday from 3.15pm-4.15pm until the SATs tests in May. The children will be provided with a drink and a snack to keep them going.

The sessions are designed to provide additional learning opportunities for children in smaller groups, revising and recalling their previous learning and supporting children in developing test techniques. These sessions should be seen as an extra learning opportunity, on top of regular class work, for your child to further their knowledge and understanding whilst benefiting from additional, tailored support.

The sessions will cover a variety of areas, including:

*reading

*writing

*grammar and punctuation

*maths

National Online Safety

A free online safety guide on Spotify.

With around 60,000 songs added to its online library every day, Spotify is a vast treasure trove of audio dating from some 19th century recordings through to giants of the download age like The Weeknd and Ed Sheeran. Factor podcasts, audiobooks and videos into the mix, and the Swedish-based streaming platform quite literally offers something for everyone.

Not everything in Spotify’s depths is universally suitable, however. The sheer mass of music and content on the platform mean that, naturally, not all of it is intended for younger listeners. With an audio chat service available and media reports of predatory activity, our #WakeUpWednesday guide highlights other aspects of Spotify which trusted adults ought to be in the loop about.

In the guide you'll find tips on a number of potential risks such as age-inappropriate lyrics, an audio chat function and recent reports of predatory activity.
