We started the year with a display of books that highlight kids who are beginning a new journey in their lives. These storybook characters are starting middle school or high school, trying out for a sport, joining a club, or embarking on some other great adventure. These can be exciting and scary times in a young person's life; luckily we can bring book friends along for the ride!
September 22 -28, 2024 was Banned Book Week! This display featured books that have been banned in the past in various parts of the United States. Times change and books that were once thought to be too radical for youth sometimes become part of the curriculum. The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton and The Giver by Lois Lowry are now read by our seventh graders. In a couple of months, our 8th graders will be working on their own Banned Book Project.
This display included student work in the form of Mexican Calaveras or "Sugar Skulls."
Marblehead is located on the unceded ancestral lands of the Naumkeag band of the Massachusetts and Pawtucket tribes.
We recognize and honor the Naumkeag people as the original stewards of this land.
This land acknowledgement was researched and written by our Superintendent John Robidoux in August 2024.
During Black History Month, the hallway display focused on prominent African Americans who fought for freedom and civil rights, as well as some events that have shaped our country on the bumpy path towards justice for all.
This display was created with help from three of our 7th grade Library Interns. These books highlight just a tiny sampling of women who have lived their lives in ways that dare anyone to try to set rules for what women can or can't accomplish.
This display for National Poetry Month was created by our 8th grade Library Interns. It showcases some of our poetry books, anthologies, and both fiction and nonfiction books in verse.
