Colorado law (Board of Health rule 6 CCR 1009-2) requires all students attending Colorado schools and licensed child cares to be vaccinated against certain diseases, unless an exemption is filed. The minimum number and spacing of doses is set forth in the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) Child and Adolescent Immunization Schedules. Meeting the initial vaccine requirements does not excuse a student from meeting additional requirements. In addition to the vaccines required for school entry, there are several vaccines recommended by the ACIP that provide protection against other diseases. These include Meningococcal, Hepatitis A, Rotavirus, Human papillomavirus and Influenza.

IMMUNIZATION EXEMPTION INFORMATION

If your student cannot get vaccines because of medical reasons, you must submit an official Immunization Medical Exemption Form to your school, signed by a health care provider licensed to give vaccines. If you choose not to get your student vaccinated according to the current ACIP schedule for religious or personal belief reasons, you must submit a non-medical exemption to your school.

*****Non-medical exemptions must be submitted every year.

You can either submit the state health department’s non-medical form (online or paper copy) for inclusion in the Colorado Immunization Information System (CIIS), provide a paper copy of the state health department’s non-medical exemption form to your student’s school, or submit a signed non-medical statement of exemption to your student’s school.

Such a statement should include the following information:

1. student’s full name,

2. age or date of birth,

3. date the exemption was submitted,

4. the vaccines declined, and

5. which type of non-medical exemption is being taken (personal belief or religious).

If you choose to include your student’s information in CIIS, you may opt your student out of CIIS at any time. Your student’s school may also ask you to provide them with a paper copy of the non-medical exemption if you submit online.

Attention parents of 5th graders! All 5th graders are required to get a Tdap vaccine during the summer. All 5th grade students should visit their health care providers during the summer to receive required and/or recommended vaccines and maybe their sports physical, too! All students entering the 6th grade will be required to be current on immunizations unless a medical, personal belief or religious vaccine exemption is filed.

After the mandatory review of Medical Marijuana use on campus, Manzanola School District 3J has OPTED OUT of medical marijuana usage on school property. This means NO MARIJUANA of any kind is allowed on school campus. This includes hemp and CBD products. This can be found in school district policies regarding medication administration.

This paragraph addresses Stock EpiPen policies

Manzanola School District 3J has OPTED IN for stock EpiPens. There are several epinephrine pens in various locations throughout the campus (AED's also). Several staff members for the school year 2019-2020 have been specifically trained by the district school nurse to assess for severe allergic reactions and/or anaphylaxis. All trained employees, including the nurse and kitchen staff, have been instructed how to properly assess for anaphylaxis, administer EpiPens, and call for emergency services. This information can be found in school district policies regarding medication administration.
