Dear Parents,
Welcome to second grade! I am very excited to be your child’s teacher this year. I am looking forward to a great year of learning and fun. To get us started, I have listed a few things below that may be helpful.
Take Home Folders
Take home folders should be brought to and from school daily. Inside the pockets you will find homework, notes, completed classwork, notices from the office and other important items. Please look through your child’s folder every evening. Notes from home, papers for the office and other items that need to be sent to school may also be placed in the folder. At school, your child will be responsible for emptying and filling their own folders.
Our Day
Most days will include the following, but the order will vary depending on our special schedule for the day:
Morning Meeting
Math lesson with whole and small group instruction
Fundations/Word work lesson
Writing practice
Reading lessons with whole group and small group instruction
Recess and Lunch
Specials
Social Studies or Science activity
RTI group instruction
Snacks and Drinks
Please send in one, dry (no utensils needed), healthy snack that is easy to eat. We most often have a “working snack” rather than a “snack time”.
Please note: There are no snacks available for students who do not bring their own. Please do not send in nuts, peanut butter, or items containing nuts/peanut butter. If a student brings a snack containing these ingredients they will be asked to put it away until lunchtime in the cafeteria.
Snack ideas: cheese and crackers; cut up fruit; mini muffins; pretzels; granola bar (no nuts/peanuts); goldfish; cut up veggies; fruit bars; popcorn
Students may bring in a reusable water bottle to keep by their seat for the day (water only please). Be sure the water bottle closes easily and tightly so it doesn’t spill all over our carpet if knocked over.
Students are welcome to bring other types of drinks (juice, milk, etc) with their lunch to have in the cafeteria.
Classroom Comfort
The temperature in our classroom varies daily. On warm days, the air conditioning will be on. If your child tends to be chilly, please send them with a sweatshirt to use as needed.
Please feel free to send in a note, email me at cmastowski@mansfieldschool.com or call me at 609-298-0308 x1151 with any questions or concerns. I will do my best to respond promptly. I look forward to getting to know your children this year and meeting with all of you at Back to School Night!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Cheryl Mastowski
