Field Trips

The 8th grade students were fortunate to be invited to attend a naturalization ceremony at the state house. This event was especially important because of the location and the great number of new citizens taking their oath (over 80 people from 37 different countries). Some of our students were involved in the ceremony performing with the chorus.

Following the ceremony, students were given a tour of the state house. They were able to view the flags from past wars, explore the old judges library while learning about the difference between local and federal government from a UNH professor, and sit in the seats of the N.H. senators while participating in a meaningful discussion with N.H. Senator,Donna M. Soucy.

Through the University of New Hampshire's (UNH) Teacher-Engineer STEM Scholar Academy (TESSA), we are able to partner with Terracon Consultants, a geotechnical engineering firm of both engineers and scientists. Throughout the school year, there are opportunities for these folks to come to our classrooms and us to go to their lab and use their "classrooms" for hands-on learning experiences to gain both the understanding of physics, Earth science and ecology as well as see the relevance to the workplace. We have both enjoyed this partnership and appreciate the time, energy and support Wally Shedd and Anna Suprunenko have provided and will continue to provide the students here at McLaughlin!
