SMILE vs Rigid Behavior: Srihan Dalal's Story

Srihan Dalal is a boy with Autism. He is passing through adolescence handling various types of behavioral challenges. His communication skills are very poor. He is doing his 8th standard from NIOS. Music, craft, dancing, cooking make him happy. He always tries to be occupied with some meaningful activities. Recently he has started living independently at  Manolaya. He wants to lead a meaningful life handling all his unavoidable challenges.

Shivanshu now knows the meaning of words and can also make small sentences, which has helped him in his secondary studies too.

Shivanshu, aged 17, is a remarkable individual who has made significant progress in his education despite facing intellectual and developmental disabilities. Having successfully completed Level C, he is currently pursuing his secondary education through the National Institute for Higher Education (NIOS).

Shivanshu is not only punctual and hardworking but also a proactive student who isn't afraid to seek clarification from his teachers whenever he encounters doubts. Beyond his academic pursuits, he actively participates in cultural activities and engages in various art and craft projects. He wholeheartedly embraces all the programs offered by Smile and Manbhavan, approaching them with great enthusiasm and self-motivation. Shivanshu even takes it upon himself to learn and execute activities taught by the program's experts.

With the invaluable support of dedicated volunteers from the USA and his unwavering passion for all these activities, Shivanshu has grown in confidence and continues to make strides towards fulfilling his dreams and aspirations.

It's heartening to see Himaksh's enthusiasm and determination to learn and grow. With the right support and encouragement, he can continue to make progress in all areas of his life, including mathematics.

Smile Basic English with Avi and Anya improves students confidence

As a support teacher in Smile Group, I have been observed that Avi has been holding weekly lessons on a very consistent schedule for basic English and language development. He has varying levels of intellectual and developmental disabilities, including the students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, visual disability, delayed speech etc. He can engage with these students and work with them very effectively. These students have made significant progress. The students make eye contact, participate enthusiastically, and speak without reservation; their communication has become more fluent. The classroom atmosphere is very inclusive. The lesson plans are very organized and tailored to teaching these students. He also organized games and interactive videos for students. Avi has been a true asset to the SMILE project. He is compassionate and aware of the needs of these students. It has been a delightful experience to work with him and to see our students grow and thrive with his exceptional teaching skills.

On Going Event:

Every Monday Asha Durga takes session at 9 o'clock.

In these classes, she teaches and enjoy dance, singing, rhymes, art & craft and exercise.

At just seventh grade, Asha Durga is a creative powerhouse. Dancing, singing, and robitics (just to name a few) are the ways she has found to contribute to The SMILE Project. She loves helping the disadvantaged because she “feels satisfied when I see them happy.” Her embracement of individuality and social justice impassioned her to spread smiles in her own unique way of dance and song.

Facilities

Virtual Classroom on Premises

On-premise virtual classroom software is the one installed and running on the premises of the organization using it. We have the flexibility to create our functionality and customize the platform according to your need. Also, it calls for a massive investment of resources and time. We’ll also need a full-fledged IT infrastructure and support to make this project work.
