In Year 7 Textiles, students explore the exciting world of fabric and design. Using the Victorian Curriculum v2.0, they learn basic sewing skills, how to safely use tools and equipment, and how to follow simple patterns. Students are encouraged to be creative and solve problems while making fun and practical items. This subject also helps build fine motor skills and confidence through hands-on learning. Textiles gives students a chance to express themselves and understand how clothes and fabric products are made. It’s a fun and engaging way to begin learning about design and technology.

Students will undertake the following areas as part of their learning schedule:
Introduction to Textile Materials and Tools
Hand and Machine Sewing Techniques
Design Thinking and Evaluation
This subject is delivered as a double period, with two consecutive sessions scheduled each week to allow for extended practical and theoretical learning.
Most learning tasks are designed to be completed during class time. However, students may be required to complete some aspects of their design process at home, such as evaluating their outcomes, reflecting on their learning, or further developing design ideas and theory work to support their projects.
