The children enjoyed creating Easter bunny masks using a range of craft materials. They carefully selected and assembled items such as cotton wool, paper ears and pipe cleaners. The children showed creativity and imagination talking about their bunnies proudly trying on their finished masks and engaging in playful role-play with their friends.
The children created Mother’s Day handprint flowers using paints. They talked about the special people in their lives and enjoyed transforming their hand prints into flowers. This activity supported creativity, fine motor skills and conversations about family relationships.
As a part of our learning about Ramadan, the children explored why Ramadan is a special time for Muslims around the world. We talked about how Muslims fast during daylight hours, spend time helping others, and reflect on the kindness and gratitude. As a focus activity, children created beautiful sun catchers using colourful tissue paper. They carefully assembled their designs and added stars and a crescent moon, symbols often linked with Ramadan. The Sun catchers look lovely when the light shines through them and helps the children think about light or reflection and celebration during this important time.
This week, children created their own pirate treasure maps using a range of creative techniques. They scrunched paper and used wet teabags to stain it, observing how the paper change colour and texture. They then selected a range of pictures to show the journey the Pirates would take, sequencing events and explaining what might happen along the way. This activity supported the children’s fine motor development, storytelling skills and their ability to represent ideas through creative materials.
This week, children have been learning the names of shapes such as circle, square, triangle and rectangle. Counting how many side and how many corners.
This week Reception learnt all about Chinese New Year, as a class children discussed how and where it’s celebrated. They also looked at different food that’s eaten and and different decorations that are put up. They made their own red and gold lanterns to hang up to celebrate!
They then went into the playground and did a traditional Chinese New Year dragon dance!
This week in P.E, children practised balancing on a bench and jumping from a low apparatus, creating controlled body shapes such as star jumps, whilst in the air, they showed strength, balance and coordination and moved safely around the space.
This week, children practiced searching and writing letters!
To celebrate Valentines Day, Reception made cards for their family and friends. The children used heart-shaped stamps to print valentines pictures. They showed good control when dipping and pressing the stamps and enjoy creating and repeating patterns and balloon shapes. They talked about showing kindness and who they were given a picture to encourage in language and feelings about friendships.
Reception have been reading the story 'The Naughty Bus', this week children created their own bus! They role-played what 'naughty' antics their bus got into!
This week children were learning to subitize to 6! They began by putting numbers 1-6 in order then rolling a dice and moving their counter to the number is landed on!
