This week we have consolidated our knowledge of the animals that live in the oceans. We have learnt their names and some facts about them. The children decided they wanted to make one large octopus instead of lots of small ones. They worked together to make the eight legs and then created a face for it.
We have been enjoying our P.E. sessions with Mr Murphy. The children are much better at following instructions and working with equipment such as bean bags and balls. We have finished our lessons by following instructions with the parachute.

The highlight of our week has been our Teddy Bears Picnic. We began by baking fairy cakes on Monday for us to take on our picnic. On Tuesday we all brought in our teddies to join us on our picnic. We prepared the crackers and cheese together and helped to take our blankets, food and balls over to the meadow area in the big playground. We had a great time and it was lots of fun playing on the climbing equipment and having lots of space to run around with the footballs.
On Thursday we had our third visit from the Foundling Museum. This week we found out about how the foundlings spent their time during the day. We had a go at doing our own sewing onto pieces of hessian material.

We began this week by making turtles out of paper plates as part of our 'Under the rockpooll' topic. We have been revisiting the story throughout the week, thinking about the characters and sequencing the story through pictures and role play. We used our drawings to help us verbally retell the story.
We had our second visit from the Foundling Museum on Thursday. This week we learnt how important it was for the children to have friends and saw a picture of what the Foundling hospital looked like. We made a big friendship web and talked about why we like our friends. After we made clay tokens which we decorated and cut in half so we could keep one half for ourselves and give the other half to our friend.
In maths we have been learning to recognise numerals. We played number games during group times and had to find the missing numbers on the maths table.
Outside we have been cleaning cars, making pizza in the mud kitchen, making marks and continuing to hunt for minibeasts. Woodlice seem to be the favourite at the moment.

We are continuing our work around the sea and have learning about size with shells and beginning to learn the names of some of the animals and things that can be found under the sea. We sorted real shells into size order and then cut out paper shells to order. We also practised out cutting skills by creating our own under the sea pictures.
On Thursday we had open day and some of our mums and dads came in to see how we are learning.
We have been very good this week at collaborative play with our friends and there has been lots of group activities going on, for example, we have been camping, playing cars and making a house. We even made a chain to work together to put the blocks away. Outside in the garden we have building in the sand with large construction pieces and playing 'at the office'. We have been making our own marks to record our telephone conversations.

This week we have started a six week workshop run by the Foundling Museum. The workshops will tell the story of the Foundling Hospital founded by Thomas Coram. This week we learnt about who Thomas Coram was and what he did. This was achieved through a selection of role play, games and music. We then went to the tables to create our own foundling children stick puppets. We finished by pretending to get ready for bed and listening to a lullaby just as the foundling children would have in the Foundling Hospital.
During free play outside, we have been having fun in the sand, exploring cornflour, playing with the parachute and watering our plants.
