1. WATERSHED PROJECT (Year-Long Study)
Students are testing the Little Manitowoc River once a month. Each group has a designated spot in the river that they will conduct testing on all year long. One group member must collect a water sample. Then the entire group works on testing and recording that sample.
2. ANIMAL STUDY
The goal of this study was to end up getting a classroom pet. Students had two entry events. The first was by Kaytee, who brought in small animals for us to learn about and touch. The other was by the Manitowoc Zoo, which we visited and viewed caged animals as well as reptiles and amphibians. Students then researched an animal of their choice, in pairs. They created a cost projection, animal care plan, and student contract. At the end of the project, they presented to Kaytee representatives who gave a list of the top 5 best presentations. The class then voted on which animal to choose. Kaytee provided all the essentials, including habitat, food, and the animal. We welcomed Carmelo, the guinea pig, as our newest classmate.
3. OUTDOOR LEARNING SPACE 2.0
When last years Outdoor Learning Space hit a snag with their benches, PBL saw it as an opportunity. Students brainstormed ideas for the space and grouped based on similar ideas. They then created a proposal and model for the students from last year's PBL to review. The new plan should go into place during the Spring.
4. MISSION MARS
During the Mission Mars project, students had a lot on their hands. This project had four major components. Students had to research about Mars, create and present a perfect place to live on Mars, conduct an experiment related to Mars, and prepare and debate whether America should send humans to Mars, robots to Mars, or forget about travel to Mars entirely.
