Mirza Sanchez-Medina, our Founding Principal, has guided our school towards excellence. We have consistently received an "A" on the NYC Progress Report (PR) since 2007 when progress report grades were initiated.
Our Current Principal, George Lock
Mr. Lock has followed in Sanchez-Medina's footsteps to continue our school tradition of supporting every student in achieving their full potential as they prepare for professional careers.
OUR ORIGIN:
Manhattan Bridges High School first opened its doors in September 2003 as a transitional bilingual school for Spanish-speaking students. Our school has consistently received top marks from the Department of Education for its success in giving opportunity and access to all students no matter what their starting point. The school fosters a strong college-readiness culture and teachers are committed to helping students achieve at high levels.
In 2009, Manhattan Bridges established the Academies of Engineering and Information Technology. At the end of their high school career, students may graduate with industry certifications, which are confirmations of competency in a given field and can be helpful when students are applying for jobs.
U.S. News & World Report gave Manhattan Bridges a gold medal in 2018 for college readiness and student performance on state-mandated tests. Students take the Regents exams and regularly meet or exceed standards for Regents performance. In addition, students have high participation and pass rates for AP exams. Students also have the opportunity to participate in College Now, a partnership between CUNY and public high schools that allows high school students to receive high school or college credit for taking CUNY college classes.
Our school provides comprehensive college preparation and career readiness experiences. Our STEM programs afford students sequences in engineering or IT and the ability to earn college credits and industry certifications. Students are able to apply to either the Bilingual Program or the Dual Language Program in Spanish.
We support and inspire our students to achieve academic excellence from the moment they arrive until they graduate. That is our mission.
Having partnerships with businesses is vital to our students' success. In order to make sure that our students get the best opportunities, Manhattan Bridges' staff work incredibly hard to maintain partnerships with some of the most innovative businesses of the 21st century.
Job-shadowing and internship opportunities with companies such as Verizon, Juniper, AMEX, Cornell University and many more.
