Not all paint protection is the same. Different protection technologies offer different levels of durability, gloss, and protection. At Mangum Motorsports Detailing, we help clients choose the right solution based on their goals, budget, and how they use their vehicle. We do not offer wax services, only sealants and ceramic coatings. We will explain why.
Below is a simple breakdown of the three primary types of paint protection.
Traditional Shine | Short-Term Protection
Carnauba wax has been used in automotive detailing for decades. It is known for producing a warm, rich shine that many enthusiasts love.
However, wax sits on top of the paint and gradually breaks down from heat, washing, and environmental exposure.
Typical lifespan:
4-8 weeks
Benefits
• Deep, warm gloss
• Affordable protection option
• Ideal for show cars or short-term protection
Limitations
• Short durability
• Limited chemical and environmental resistance
• Requires frequent reapplication
Modern Synthetic Protection | Longer Durability
Paint sealants are synthetic protection products engineered to bond more effectively to the paint surface than traditional wax.
They provide stronger environmental protection and longer durability while enhancing gloss and water beading.
Typical lifespan:
4-8 months
Benefits
• Strong hydrophobic properties
• Better resistance to UV, chemicals, and contaminants
• Longer durability than wax
• Excellent gloss and slickness
Limitations
• Still requires periodic reapplication
• Not as durable as ceramic coatings
Advanced Protection | Maximum Durability
Ceramic coatings represent the most advanced form of paint protection available today. These coatings chemically bond with the paint to form a highly durable protective layer.
When installed properly with correct preparation and paint correction, ceramic coatings dramatically improve gloss, water behavior, and resistance to environmental damage.
Typical lifespan:
2–7+ years depending on the coating system
Benefits
• Exceptional durability
• Strong resistance to UV damage, chemicals, and contamination
• Extreme water beading and easier washing
• Long-term protection with proper maintenance
Important Note
Ceramic coatings require proper surface preparation and paint correction to perform correctly. Without this preparation, coatings may not bond properly or deliver their full lifespan.
This is why at Mangum Motorsports, ceramic coatings are always paired with the appropriate level of exterior detailing and paint correction.
The right protection depends on how long you want the protection to last, how you maintain your vehicle, and the condition of the paint.
At Mangum Motorsports, we guide every client through the options and recommend the solution that will deliver the best results for their specific vehicle and expectations.
Because in our shop, protection isn’t just about applying a product — it’s about delivering a finish that looks incredible and lasts.
At Mangum Motorsports Detailing, our goal is to provide protection solutions that deliver real performance and long-term value for our clients.
For that reason, we do not offer traditional wax services. While wax has been used in detailing for decades, modern protection technologies have significantly surpassed it in both durability and performance.
Carnauba wax creates a temporary layer on the surface of the paint that produces a warm shine, but it typically lasts only a few weeks before breaking down from heat, washing, and environmental exposure.
Because of its short lifespan, wax often requires frequent reapplication to maintain protection. For most modern vehicles and daily drivers, this makes it a less practical solution compared to newer protection technologies.
Instead, we focus on advanced protection systems that provide dramatically better durability and protection.
