Mancelona High School art teacher, Flower Apley, climbs their way to achieving excellence with students. Teacher Apley is a first-year teacher at Mancelona High School. They have made some amazing accomplishments along with their students. Teacher Apley is our High School art teacher. They are all over the world of art with amazing classes this year; ceramic classes, art classes, printing classes, and advanced art.

Flower Apley is always coming up with ideas and openly sharing them with their students. Many projects are in the making right now and Teacher Apley is so excited to release them to the school eye. Art classes are working on a project called “collage-identity,” and a social commentary piece on our school code/rules honored and challenged within student art. They are also very excited for their ceramics projects; greek work with faces.

“Very talented class” stated Teacher Apley!

Just like any other teacher, Apley has had some struggles. They are still in graduate school while also teaching multiple subjects. Teacher Apley struggled with time requirements and new ideas. However, all of their students are so supportive and help them in any way they can!

So many wins happening in their classroom this semester! Apley explains, “I feel like day to day I love being here! Always amazing to have a laid-back, relaxed class.” Teacher Apley also shared that their favorite time of the semester was doing watercolor. They stated, “I love watercolor sessions!! The best time. A fun way to relax and create something cool.” Apley is well-liked by many students. One student shared, “They are an amazing, open art teacher.”

Messy art is their favorite art! “When people go to try something new, they focus on perfection. How would you perfect something you haven’t tried before?!” shared Teacher Apley. Teacher Apley continues to guide and inspire students not toward artistic perfection but toward finding their own artistic voice.
