High School Concession Stands
Mancelona High School is adding a new addition to the softball and baseball field. This new addition is a concession stand. The new concession stands and bathrooms are part of the bond that was passed in August of 2022. The facilities at the baseball and softball fields will allow for basic food and drink, along with a much-needed bathroom facility at both. The new fieldhouse at the track/football field will have a full concession stand, bathrooms, and two locker rooms. Some storage for each sport will also be part of the building. These can also be used when cross country is hosting home meets. Trent Naumcheff the high school principal said, “These hope to be ready in time for track season, but definitely should be ready for the fall.” What he is saying is he is hoping that the concession stands will be ready before track season starts in March, but for sure he knows that the stands will be done before football starts next season. Trent Naumcheff also states,” These can also be used when cross country is hosting home meets.”
Not only are these concession stands used for food and drinks they are also used to hold meets for track and cross country. Also, this will attract more people to games due to having food and drinks. The construction at Bushard Field will alter the entrance and change how people park for games. There will be a comprehensive overhaul to the middle school parking lot and many spaces will be added to accommodate the large events we host at the field like football, track, etc. You may notice a new and safer entrance to our building when you return to school in January. In addition, Mr. Tarbutton talks more about the concession stands and the scoreboards! The scoreboard getting put up at the football field is a donation, part of it was donations, and also part of it was the school. The Mancelona High School also covered seventy-five percent of the scoreboard money. More details about the scoreboard are, that the posts in the ground are fourteen feet deep. The scoreboard itself is massive going by twenty-five feet wide. The school hopes to have the scoreboard up after the snow is all gone. The board is stored in the Mancelona bus garages to be kept safe and out of damage from the weather. On the east end of the football field, they will be putting to the other scoreboard before the track season starts.
Mr.Tarbutton said, ¨Why we put it on the east end is because of track season, that way we can run the timing system so when athletes finish they can see their time on the scoreboard.¨ Once these scoreboards are put up the one on the west side that was put up in the year 2005 will be taken down. The field house will have a full concession stand, bathrooms, and two locker rooms. Some storage for each sport will also be part of the building. Mr.Tarbutton stated the most important room is the officials changing room for us officials. We get a room right next to the concession stand where we can go in and change in at half time, and have our restroom instead of having to use the same restroom that all the fans use. It will be a nice change for that.¨
The athletic budget was around one to two million dollars. Moving on from athletics to the high school all the classrooms with carpet will be torn out and turned into epoxy Including the main office. All the carpet will be torn out and replaced with carpet squares. ¨A couple of the rooftop units will be replaced for heating and cooling.¨ Mr.Tarbutton states. He also explains, ¨ The one that does the center core media center and the other one does the office down through the teacher's lounge and the computer lab. Those rooftop units will be replaced. This is simply because they are over twenty-seven years old, we had to do a lot of work on them. It's time for them to go away.¨
The main reason why the Mancelona High School members wanted to change the buildings at the softball, baseball, and football fields was because it was a necessity. It was a bad image for the away teams, parents, and fans. Mr. Dirosa and Mr. Tarbutton want the fields to look as good and clean as possible. If there is also money left from all these wonderful new features they might be adding a new dugout to the baseball and softball fields of Mancelona High School! Also, the school will be safer. There will be new camera systems throughout the school.
