5th Grade Band Curriculum Summary

At Mancelona, students begin their instrumental journey in 5th grade. It is within this year that they will first be introduced to their instrument and the world of music making. 

In 5th Grade Band we focus on the fundamentals of music making; air support, fingerings, embouchure, rhythm, pitch, and everything else needed to produce a sound on an instrument. In this ensemble we combine 5th and 6th grade students. 6th graders will get a review of how to perform on their instruments and get a chance to help their 5th grade peers in their musical journey. 

In band we not only focus on the fundamentals of making music but we focus on how to work with others. We learn to listen to each other and work as a team to create a quality piece of music.
