Manara Academy will require teachers and staff to self-screen for COVID-19 symptoms before coming onto campus each day. Additional reporting requirements and protocols regarding COVID-19 exposure or confirmation are in place for teachers and staff.
Parents must ensure they do not send a child to school or on the bus if the child has COVID-19 symptoms or is lab confirmed COVID-19 and should opt to receive remote instruction until re-entry conditions are met.
Students will be screened for daily temperature checks prior to entering the classroom setting.
Parents are asked to pre-screen their own children DAILY for temperatures prior to sending them to school. 100 degrees or above is considered the cut off for a fever. Any child with a temperature of 100 degrees or higher should remain at home.
Visitors with official school business such as vendors or by district scheduled appointment will be pre-screened per the same pre-screening protocols as district staff and teachers prior to campus entry.
Temperature checks upon arrival - all students and staff. Anything above 100 degrees F is considered a fever and will be sent home.
Students experiencing symptoms during the school day such as sore throat, cough, chills or flu-like symptoms will be asked to be picked up by a parent and remain at home, while checking with a health professional about COVID-19 Testing.
If parents are notified that their child has a fever or other flu-like symptoms, the student will remain in the nurse's office for immediate parent pick up - within ONE HOUR of school contact. This is to minimize the impact on others at school.
Community access to the schools will be limited to immediate needs only. Parents participating in morning and afternoon arrivals/dismissals will be asked to remain in the vehicles. The only exception is for SCHEDULED meetings with staff or teachers.
Student staggered arrival and dismissal practices will be implemented when possible.
Physical distancing practices will be implemented within classrooms. Students will be seated apart as much as space will allow (3-6 feet). Seats in school will be given to any student that is enrolled and attends. This means the distance between students will vary by classroom.
Use of outdoor space, gym, and secondary school classrooms will be utilized when possible.
Designated routes to classes and throughout the building as well as multiple entrances and exits will be utilized to minimize contact between students.
Masks are required at school and on the bus. The only exception is when eating during designated meal times.
Students and staff will be asked to use hand sanitizing stations and frequent hand washing with soap and water (20 seconds).
Students and staff are reminded to avoid touching face and mouth.
Students will be asked to avoid physical interactions with classmates such as high fives, hugs, or handling one another's personal items such as pencils, books, water bottles, etc.
School Day: Detailed guidance for cleaning and disinfecting common areas followed by cleaning staff throughout the school day such as cafeterias, bathrooms, and shared spaces.
Evening: Schools will be cleaned and sanitized each evening with specific attention to detail such as touch surfaces, door handles, student chairs, tables and desks, bathrooms, and cafeterias.
Weekend: Sanitization using electrostatic disinfectant sprayer on all surfaces such as tabletops, desktops, chairs, door handles, bathrooms, and common areas.
There will be ongoing staff and student training on hygiene standards; frequent handwashing; posters and videos provided to support personal hygiene standards.
Shared equipment, such as lab equipment and physical education equipment will be sanitized.
Any individuals who themselves either: (a) are lab-confirmed to have COVID-19; or (b) experience the symptoms of COVID-19 (listed below) must stay at home throughout the infection period, and cannot return to campus until the school system screens the individual to determine any of the below conditions for campus re-entry have been met:
In the case of an individual who was diagnosed with COVID-19, the individual may return to school when all three of the following criteria are met:
at least three days (24 hours) have passed since recovery (resolution of fever without the use of fever-reducing medications);
the individual has improvement in symptoms (e.g., cough, shortness of breath); and
at least ten days have passed since symptoms first appeared.
In the case of an individual who has symptoms that could be COVID-19 and who is not evaluated by a medical professional or tested for COVID-19, such individual is assumed to have COVID-19, and the individual may not return to the campus until the individual has completed the same three-step set of criteria listed above.
If the individual has symptoms that could be COVID-19 and wants to return to school before completing the above stay at home period, the individual must either (a) obtain a medical professional’s note clearing the individual for return based on an alternative diagnosis or (b) receive two separate confirmations at least 24 hours apart that they are free of COVID via acute infection tests at an approved COVID-19 testing location found at https://tdem.texas.gov/covid-19/.
Students are asked not to share food with others.
Students are asked to bring their own water bottles.
Students will be in assigned seating areas in cafeteria (or classrooms) with (3-6 feet) spacing.
Students will be required to wash/sanitize hands before and after eating.
Students are asked to clean their own table area thoroughly upon completion of eating and handle their own personal trash.
Students may lower their masks during the eating process and replace their face covering when finished eating.
Tables and seating area will be sanitized between groups of students using common dining space.
Food from home (cold lunch) may be brought in with the student at the beginning of the day, however, no food from outside vendors, birthday treats, or food from home may be delivered to school day.
Manara Academy will provide and require students and staff to use hand sanitizer upon boarding the bus.
When possible, a couple of bus windows will remain open to allow outside air circulation in the bus.
When possible, Manara Academy encourages families to consider transporting their own children to school to reduce possible COVID-19 exposure on buses.
Buses will be thoroughly cleaned after each bus trip, focusing on high touch surfaces such as bus seats, steering wheels, knobs and door handles.
In evaluating whether an individual has symptoms consistent with COVID-19, consider the following questions:
Have they recently begun experiencing any of the following in a way that is not normal for them?
Feeling feverish or a measured temperature greater than or equal to 100.0 degrees Fahrenheit
Loss of taste or smell
Cough
Difficulty breathing
Shortness of breath
Headache
Chills
Sore throat
Shaking or exaggerated shivering
Significant muscle pain or ache
Diarrhea
Close Contact
This document refers to “close contact” with an individual who is lab-confirmed to have COVID-19. Close contact is determined by an appropriate public health agency. For clarity, close contact is defined as:
being directly exposed to infectious secretions (e.g., being coughed on while not wearing a mask or face shield); or
being within 6 feet for a cumulative duration of 15 minutes, while not wearing a mask or face shield; if either occurred at any time in the last 14 days at the same time the infected individual was infectious.
Individuals are presumed infectious at least two days prior to symptom onset or, in the case of asymptomatic individuals who are lab-confirmed with COVID-19, two days prior to the confirming lab test.
