February 2024
Dear Caregivers,
Happy February! We here at the Title I department enjoyed conversing and dancing with so many families at our ‘Family Zumba Nights' last month. It was wonderful seeing entire families moving together and partaking in a night of fun!
We hope you can join us for one or more of our Title I events this month. We are hosting caregiver breakfast workshops at each of our K-8 schools focused on our core reading curriculum, Amplify. Caregivers can listen to a presentation about literacy instruction in schools and hear about the topics that students are learning in their classrooms. The full schedule is found here:

Additionally, February is Black History Month (2/1-2/29). Throughout this month, we here at MPS commit to promoting literacy as an integral part of Black History Month activities, and celebrate and share the works of African American writers, poets, and artists. Join us in the ‘National African American Read-In’ by reading and listening to works by Black authors. If you would like to locate books written about Black culture and/or by Black authors, do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher, literacy coach or me for selected titles. While Black history should not be isolated to only one month a year, we look forward to amplifying these voices and perspectives over the next few weeks in order to encourage continued learning throughout the year!
