Enrollment

Flexible admissions schedule: Currently accepting applications for the 2020-2021 school year, based on space availability.

Rolling enrollment: Since each student’s curriculum is self-generated, you can enroll any time during the school year. Tuition is prorated for the portion of the school year enrolled.

Tuition: Tuition is offered on a sliding scale, making the Makarios Agile Learning Center (Makarios ALC) an affordable private school for all families.

Enrollment Process

1. Informing Yourself We want to make sure we are the best option for your child and family. Our progressive, self-directed learning model is very different from the traditional education system. Please familiarize yourself with our website and the Agile Learning Center (https://agilelearningcenters.org) educational model. You may also follow us on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/makariosschool/) and Instagram to get a feel of the day-to-day culture of the school. If you decide that Makarios ALC is a good t for your child, then you should proceed to schedule a tour and interview.

2. Tour and Interview The purpose of the tour and interview is to ensure that the prospective student and their parents/guardians understand and agree with the educational philosophy of the school.

3. Apply If you would like to proceed with enrollment following the interview, you will:

a. Complete the online Enrollment Application for EACH child you wish to enroll and pay the $25 application fee (per child). We’ll reach out to you once we receive the application to let you know if a visiting week and enrollment spot may be open or if you’ll be added to our waiting list.

b. Complete the online Tuition Worksheet for your family. The Finance Committee will review your Tuition Worksheet to determine if the school has openings available at that payment level. If the school does not have openings available at that payment level, the Finance Committee will counteroffer at a higher payment level or add you to our waiting list.

4. Visiting Week Once the online application and tuition worksheet have been received, processed, and analyzed, the administrator will contact you to arrange a student visiting week. Tuition for a visiting week will be charged according to your calculated tuition and is due the first day of the visiting week.

5. Final Enrollment. At the conclusion of the visiting week, the Enrollment Committee will meet to hear feedback from the other students and collectively discuss what support may be involved in integrating the new student. If the school and family are in alignment with enrollment, you will complete the process by paying a deposit of 20% of the annual tuition offer, arranging tuition payments, and executing the final enrollment documents.

Makarios ALC is primarily supported through tuition paid by its families. In determining our tuition process, we’ve focused on a few important ideas — trust, access, and responsibility. The culture of an ALC is rooted in trust. We are committed to developing relationships of trust with all community members. Makarios ALC seeks to be available to people based on the right t, not income level, so we operate on a sliding scale, contribute-what-you-can model. Our community is thereby co-created in partnership with and for its members. However, as we grow, we must do our best to balance accessibility with sustainability. We are always looking at our tuition process to make sure we’re being responsible to our current families and to the future health of the community. Our flexible approach is also made possible by generous donations from various individuals and organizations. If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation to Makarios ALC, you can use this online link (https://www.aplos.com/aws/give/MakariosSchool) or send a check to Attn: Makarios 8700 Chapin Road, Fort Worth, Texas 76116.

Instructions for Determining Tuition: Review the tuition tier chart to see what our recommended tuition is for your income level. Currently, the minimum tuition level is $2,500 and the maximum is $9,500. We ask families who are able to pay more than the full tuition to consider making a tax-deductible donation to help us increase our accessibility.
