You’re invited to join us for an experiential learning and networking event called The Art of Mass Gatherings in Santa Barbara presented in collaboration with the I Madonnari Street Painting Festival. This learning event is part of a national program which uses festivals as classrooms to activate an arts-focused approach to community resilience and emergency preparedness. It’s meant for artists, event producers, and emergency professionals to come together and share knowledge to elevate the safety, accessibility, sustainability, and community engagement of their gatherings. The program features a mix of local and national speakers, with an emphasis on everyone present adding to the conversation and taking turns as teachers and learners.

Lastly, please do extend the invitation to this symposium to anyone who should be in the room to share their experience or would benefit from this program. Our Santa Barbara event is free to attend thanks to a grant from Performing Arts Readiness. Topics are designed so that participants leave with new skills to create safer and more accessible, sustainable, and community-engaged events and interventions, however much or little experience they have coming through the door. The I Madonnari Festival is a free city art festival, and the first festival of its kind in North America to present the performance art of street painting. Live music, a food market, and more accompany three days of chalk art and street painting. All proceeds from the event benefit Children's Creative Project, part of the Santa Barbara County Education Office.
Enjoy the festival throughout Memorial Day weekend from May 28-30th, 10a-6pm each day!
