Orchestra Audition Information

 Middle School Orchestra Audition Requirements:

1. Prepare instrumental solo: 

2026 - 2027 (Even years): "German Dance"

German Dance Tempo Range: 80 - 100

2027 - 2028 (Odd years): "Bach March"

2. Play the appropriate scales:

Violin: G major: 2 octaves & Bb major: 2 octaves

Viola: C major: 2 octaves & Eb major: 2 octaves 

Cello: C major: 2 octaves & F major: 1 octave

Double Bass: G major: 1 octave & F major: 1 octave

High School Orchestra Audition Requirements:

1. Prepare instrumental solo: 

2026 - 2027 "Variations on Amaryllis"

2027-2028 "Variations on Torreador" from Carmen

2028 - 2029 "Slavonic Dance No. 2"

2029 - 2030 "First Theme from Polovetsian Dances"

Tempo Range: 80 - 100

For the high school pieces, all fingerings given are to be taken as suggestions and are NOT required.

2. Play the appropriate scales:

Violin: D major: 2 octaves & A melodic minor: 2 octaves

Viola & Cello: G major: 2 octaves & D melodic minor: 2 octaves  G major: 2 octaves & D melodic minor: 2 octaves

Double Bass: F major: 2 octaves & E melodic minor: 1 octave
