How else can I prepare for the upcoming season?
We encourage our girls as well as future Maine West golfers to participate in Illinois Junior Golf Association (IJGA) competitions. Sign up for these competitions begins in the early spring and spots tend to fill quickly! All competitions take place during the summer months. These competitions are KEY to getting our girls in a competitive mindset before the start of the season. It allows them to play against girls they will later compete against at Conference and Regionals. Participating in IJGA competitions is highly encouraged by our coaches.
Girls Golf is a Fall sport, which leaves a very long time between seasons as well as the possibility of a player's swing/game going dormant. We encourage our girls to get out during the summer (and even winter) months to practice and play as much as possible. During the season we will play a number of courses (Salt Creek ,Twin Lakes Palatine, Winnetka, Arlington Lakes, Palatine Hills, Weber Park, Chick Evans) it is good for our girls to get regular practice at these courses so they are not playing them for the first time come the competitive season. We also encourage our golfing parents to join their daughters on the course. If they can play in front of you, they can play in front of anybody!
While we as coaches have the ability to assist our players with their swings, lessons from a golf professional are invaluable in terms of our players being able to understand and improve their swing. There are a number of golf courses within the Des Plaines area that offer golf professionals who will help assess your daughter's swing and give her the tools to fix flaws as they occur: TAM Golf Course, Mt. Prospect Golf Course, Park Ridge Golf Course.
