The Maine West Athletic Training Staff is here to provide professional care to the student athletes of Maine West High School. This care starts with an initial evaluation that emphasizes patient education through rehabilitation and injury prevention. We are able to set up a detailed care plan for an injury and work in conjunction with the student athlete's treating physician to explore different treatment options that assist our athletes to return to play at an optimal level. Our philosophy is to not only treat the signs and symptoms of an injury but to identify and treat the cause of an injury. Our services are offered free of charge to the student athletes.
Our Sports Medicine Team is composed of two full-time Certified Athletic Trainers that is overseen by a team physician, Dr. Kaleigh Suhs, of Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. Dr. Suhs along with a sports medicine fellow come into the athletic training room every Tuesday to evaluate any injuries that need to be seen.
In order to provide quality care we work along side other health care professionals and work under the direct orders of a physician. If your son or daughter is currently seeing a physician for an injury, we need a note to treat their injury as well as a note clearing them for full participation. If they do not have a note, they will be unable to compete. It is important that we communicate amongst health care providers to best serve the student athlete.
