SAFE SPORTS SCHOOL AWARD

The Maine West High School Athletic Department is proud to be recipients of the National Athletic Trainers Association Safe Sports School Award. A national award that is given to those athletic training programs that provide the gold standard of healthcare to their student-athletes.


This is the second time since 2015 that the program has earned the honor. Athletic Training Programs are evaluated every three years on the following criteria:

  • There is a positive athletic health care administrative system in place

  • Pre-participation physical examinations are conducted annually

  • Practice and competition facilities are safe and evaluated annually

  • Athletic equipment is properly fitted and maintained by a trained individual

  • Policy and procedures in regards to injuries and illness are in place and evaluated annually

  • Concussion protocols, such as a return to play protocol as well as a return to learn protocol, are in place and evaluated annually

  • Emergency action plans have been created and rehearsed

  • Psychosocial and nutritional counseling/education is made available to student-athletes
