Hi! My name is Kathleen Reheuser, and I have been baking since the age of 10. I worked in a bakery for a year, so I do have some professional experience as a baker. But everything I know, I have taught myself through trial and error. My mother worked in a restaurant for years, even running it for some time. When I was young, she wanted to teach my to cook, and especially bake, because she believed it was an important skill to have. She started out easy, with cookies and cake, then moving on to more complicated recipes like bread. Once I felt as though I had mastered bread, I started looking into more complicated recipes, like french macarons and pate a choux. I love to try new and intricate recipes, especially when its something I have never tried before. I also love baking because the whole process is so fulfilling to me. Making any dessert or bread is very relaxing to me, but giving that baked good that I made with love to someone and seeing how happy they get when I hand it to them makes me even happier. When it comes to the technical part of baking, I find the science of baking so interesting. How different ingredients interact, how adjusting certain ingredients changes the end texture of a recipe, it's all so fascinating.
