Teens in Aroostok, Franklin, Lincoln, Piscataquis, Waldo, & Washington still needed!
The selection lottery is finished, and the delegates have been selected!
Registrants have heard from us via email, and we ask the selected delegates confirm participation by Friday, May 15 through the form linked in the email notification. If you did not receive an email, please check your spam folder. If you have not received notification, please email Jennifer Chace at jennifer.chace@maine.edu.
We still have specific gaps to fill as of May 15:
HS students in Aroostok, Franklin, Lincoln, Piscataquis, Waldo, & Washington Counties.
18 to 32 years in Aroostook and Knox Counties.
33 to 54 years in Franklin County.
The first orientation session will be held at 7pm on Tuesday, May 26, the day after Memorial Day. This is one week later than anticipated, to give time for high school student delegates to be confirmed.
How were delegates chosen?
The information below was shared prior to the closing of the delegate selection lottery.
Delegates were chosen by a sortition method, using Panelot, from among the volunteers in early May. Note that volunteering does not commit you to participate.
Each county will have four delegates, one from each of the four age groups: 16-17 years, 18-32 years, 33-54 years, 55+ years.
Across the state, delegates will be selected to provide a representative balance across gender, race/ethnicity, political leaning, and educational attainment. Yes, there is an "app for that"! Delegate selection is automated using the information in the volunteer form. Once volunteering closes in early May, if we have holes in representation, we will reach out to community organizations to ask for help in locating additional volunteers to fill those gaps. Neither we nor any of our affiliated organizations will hand select delegates.
For a full volunteer FAQ and privacy information, click the "Volunteer" button, click "Register Interest," and then use the "Find Out More" button on the right side of the page. If you are still interested in volunteering, you'll answer a series of demographic questions to aid in representative delegate selection and be invited to participate in an interactive poll where you can add your own questions for other volunteers to answer.
What else might be good to know before I volunteer?
Delegates are expected to attend at least one one-hour virtual preparation session, two consecutive in-person days in Bangor, and one half-day virtual session. Delegates who attend all sessions are eligible to receive a $750 stipend to help cover lost wages due to participation.
Accommodations and meals will be provided for all delegates.
